Blue Ivy wins prestigious songwriting award for 'brown skin girl'

Blue Ivy Carter, daughter Jay-Z and Beyoncé - two famous personalities in the music industry, has emerged as a winner at Sunday’s Soul Train Awards.

The 7-year-old was given the Ashford & Simpson Songwriter’s Award for co-writing her mom’s song “Brown Skin Girl,” which also featured Nigerian starboy Wizkid and Guyanese artist Saint Jhn.

Blue Ivy’s vocals was featured at the beginning and end of the track which was released on July 2019.

Other nominated artists with their songs include: Khalid (“Talk”), Anderson. Paak (“Make It Better”), and H.E.R. (“Hard Place”), Lizzo (“Juice”) and Chris Brown/Drake (“No Guidance”)

Beyoncé and Jay-Z have won the award many times over the course of two decades.
